Nigerian Customs Service Launches Licensing Automation

The Nigerian Customs Service is implementing an automation system for its licensing and permit processes to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs. Comptroller General Muhammed Babanded made this announcement during a stakeholder engagement held in Lagos.

He emphasized the need for reforms to address long-standing demands for faster, more transparent, and simpler procedures in the industry. The initiative, approved by Bashir Adeniyi, aims to eliminate the uncertainties associated with manual processes, which have led to long queues and delays.

The automation will allow stakeholders to apply for and renew licenses via mobile phones, eliminating the need for physical visits to customs offices. This system is designed to ensure a fair and consistent process while reducing errors linked to manual documentation.

The full automation of the licensing and permit process is expected to be operational nationwide by December 31 of this year. Stakeholders have been encouraged to engage with the new system to ensure a smooth transition.
