Customs Seize N478m Worth of Lithium and Rice in Kwara

On Wednesday, the Nigeria Customs Service Kwara Area Command showcased a significant seizure of items valued at N478 million, including lithium, foreign rice, and vehicles. Deputy Comptroller Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi disclosed these details during a press conference held at the command headquarters in Ilorin.

The seizures were made through intelligence-driven operations coordinated across major smuggling routes within the command's area over the past two months. Ogundeyi highlighted the command's unwavering commitment to combating smuggling activities that threaten the nation's economy.

The seized items included five second-hand vehicles, 60 sacks of second-hand clothing, 317 jerrycans of premium motor spirit, and 1,107 bags of foreign parboiled rice. The command also intercepted 120 sacks of illegally mined lithium.

Ogundeyi noted that the command generated N2.53 billion in revenue from excise activities during the review period, emphasizing the need for collaboration among stakeholders to combat smuggling effectively.
