Customs Seizes N6.8bn Contraband in Ogun State Operation

The Nigeria Customs Service, under the Ogun Area Command led by Olukayode Afeni, has seized contraband items with a cumulative duty paid value (DPV) of N6,777,236,000 over the past five weeks. This operation, which took place near the Idiroko border post, involved the interception of 73 seizures, including 1,759 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 10,126 parcels of cannabis indica, 2,685 kegs of vegetable oil, and various other items.

The command has deployed advanced geospatial technology to monitor smuggling hotspots effectively. Afeni emphasized the adverse effects of seized items, particularly cannabis sativa, on Nigerian society, especially among youth.

The operation also generated revenue of N125,430,757.00 for the federal account from March 16 to May 12, 2026. The Customs Service aims to encourage compliant traders while continuing to combat smuggling activities.
