Customs Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth N604.3m in Kwara

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Area Command, intercepted smuggled goods valued at N604.33 million across various locations in Kwara State. The seizures included 3,396 packets of Tramadol, 270 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 6,705 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 6,875 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), used clothing, and two vehicles.

Deputy Comptroller Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi, who assumed duty on December 17, 2025, stated that the command generated N7,978,338,031.21 in revenue from January to August 2026. He emphasized that the command's operations are based on actionable intelligence and collaboration with security agencies.

Ogundeyi clarified that the interception of food products is not against food availability but is aimed at ensuring compliance with trade laws and preventing the illegal influx of foreign goods that could undermine local agricultural efforts. The seizures included a 2025 Toyota Highlander and a 2018 Dodge Charger SXT, with a combined Duty Paid Value of N604,333,592.
