INEC Registers 3.4 Million New Voters Ahead of 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported the registration of 3,441,121 new voters as part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is in its second phase. This figure includes 2,068,384 citizens who registered online and 1,372,737 who registered physically at designated centers across the country.

Notably, students represent the largest group of registrants, totaling 1,235,931, which is 35.92% of the total. Youth aged 18-34 account for 68.43% of the registrations, with women outnumbering men in the gender distribution—1,922,143 female registrants (55.86%) compared to 1,518,978 male registrants (44.14%).

The exercise has been particularly active in Jigawa, Lagos, and Kano states. INEC has cautioned that these figures are provisional pending data verification.

In Ilorin, Dr. Yakub Oloriegb emphasized the importance of consolidating political participation ahead of the 2027 elections, targeting an additional 300,000 new voters in Kwara Central Senatorial District.
