INEC Launches Online Voter Registration from July 8

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) introduced a self-service online voter registration platform for eligible first-time voters, effective July 8. Mallam Moham Abubakar Sadiq, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Nasarawa State, announced this development during a briefing in Lafia.

The platform allows first-time voters to complete the registration process, including biometric data capture, using personal devices without physically visiting INEC offices. It incorporates robust identity verification and backend integration to ensure the credibility and accuracy of the national voter register.

Additionally, INEC has approved a two-week extension for the ongoing nationwide continuous voter registration exercise, initially set to end on July 10 but now closing on July 26, following feedback from stakeholders. The commission aims to ensure every eligible Nigerian has a fair opportunity to register, with the nationwide continuous voter registration exercise set to commence on August 18, 2025.

The initiative is part of INEC's commitment to improving access and service delivery in the electoral process.
