INEC Extends Voter Registration Deadline to July 26, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a two-week extension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which will now conclude on July 26, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled July 10, 2026. Mallam Moham Haruna, the chairman of INEC, disclosed this information during a statement to the voter education committee.

The extension follows a review of feedback from various stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations. Additionally, INEC introduced a self-service online registration option for eligible first-time voters, effective July 8, 2026.

This new service aims to provide additional opportunities for eligible citizens to register ahead of future electoral activities. The self-service option allows citizens to complete their voter registration, including biometric data capture, using personal devices without needing to visit INEC offices.

Haruna emphasized the commission's commitment to credible and inclusive voter registration processes, leveraging technology to improve citizens' experiences in the electoral process.
