Bamanga Tukur Laid to Rest in Yola with Dignitaries Present

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and one-time National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, was buried on Sunday, September 12, 2026, in Yola following Janazah prayers at the Lamido of Adamawa’s Palace Mosque. The prayer occurred shortly before 11 am, attended by thousands of mourners, government officials, and dignitaries, including Africa’s richest industrialist, Aliko Dangote, and the Emir of Adamawa, Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa.

Tukur's remains were interred at his late father’s family compound near the Lamido Palace in accordance with Islamic rites. Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri led a large delegation to the prayers and burial, describing Tukur as a father and mentor.

Fintiri declared Monday, September 14, 2026, a work-free day as part of a three-day mourning period. Tukur, who died just days before his 91st birthday, is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Alhaji Awwal Tukur, Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State.
