Dangote Reveals Reasons Behind Petrol Price Hike Amid Union Dispute

Dangote Group's President, Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, explained the reasons behind the recent petrol price hike, attributing it to the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) imposing levies on every truckload of fuel from the Dangote Refinery. Dangote warned that these charges could further burden consumers with increased pump prices.

NUPENG's President, Williams Akporeha, neither confirmed nor denied the allegations. Dangote emphasized the need for union membership to remain voluntary under Nigerian labor laws.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery had briefly suspended sales on September 23. The refinery also announced another price increase.
