Aliko Dangote to Donate $11.7 Billion to Charity

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, intends to donate one-third of his wealth, estimated at $35.1 billion, to charity, amounting to about $11.7 billion, as revealed by his daughter Halima Dangote in a Bloomberg interview. Halima, a trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, stated that this decision is part of a succession plan that has received family support.

She emphasized that philanthropy is integral to Dangote's legacy, with a focus on health and education. He has already donated 25 percent of his estate to the foundation, which was established in 1994 and endowed with $1.25 billion, receiving an additional $700 million since then.

The foundation allocates about 70 percent of its spending to Nigeria, 20 percent to other African projects, and the remainder internationally, addressing health, education, nutrition, and humanitarian relief. Dangote's commitment, while below the 50 percent threshold of the Giving Pledge, ranks among the largest philanthropic efforts by an African billionaire.
