Dangote Warns AI Could Disrupt Engineering Sector

Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries, has warned that artificial intelligence (AI) could significantly disrupt traditional engineering roles, potentially replacing tasks historically performed by human engineers. Speaking during his induction as an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering in Lagos, he urged engineering professionals to take a proactive role in shaping the future of the discipline.

Dangote highlighted the increasing role of AI in engineering design and stressed the necessity for innovation to sustain human applications. He reaffirmed that engineering is central to Nigeria's development and that the nation cannot industrialize without skilled engineers.

Dangote's company, Dangote Industries, is noted for its substantial contributions to various sectors, including the construction of the largest refinery in Africa. He also emphasized the need for bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industrial application through initiatives like the Dangote Academy, which trains young engineers in advanced technologies.
