INEC's Withdrawal of ADC Leadership Recognition Challenged

Barrister Oluwol Osaz Uzzi, a former director at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has challenged INEC's decision to withdraw recognition of the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Uzzi stated that INEC misinterpreted a court ruling regarding the ADC's leadership crisis, emphasizing that the court's intention was to maintain the current situation until the matter is fully resolved in the High Court.

He clarified that the court did not instruct INEC to withdraw recognition from either faction of the party. Uzzi urged the ADC to proceed with its planned congress and convention without interfering with the court process, asserting that the presence of INEC officials is not a requirement for the validity of the congress outcomes.

He expressed surprise at INEC's stance, considering the legal expertise within the commission, and highlighted that the Electoral Act mandates notification to INEC at least 21 days prior to any party event.
