INEC Restores ADC Leadership After Supreme Court Ruling

Jibrin Okutepa, the lead counsel for former Senate President David Mark, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its swift action in restoring the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on its portal, following a Supreme Court judgment delivered on Thursday. The apex court had set aside a status quo ante bellum order previously issued by the Court of Appeal regarding the ADC leadership tussle.

This decision directed Mark to return to the Federal High Court to resolve the issues arising from the crisis initiated by a suit filed by former national vice chairman Nafiu Bala, who sought to restrain Mark's leadership. Okutepa emphasized that INEC acted appropriately and without delay, demonstrating respect for the rule of law.

He criticized the pattern of public institutions disregarding court orders, urging INEC to remain steadfast in protecting democracy in Nigeria.
