INEC Memo Reveals ADC Leadership Violations Ahead of 2027

A memo dated August 6, 2025, from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicates that the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), headed by David Mark, violated the Electoral Act. The memo highlights that the party did not issue the required 21-day notice for a meeting held on July 29, 2025, to elect party leaders, rendering the process invalid.

Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act mandates this notice for political parties. INEC noted that the ADC failed to notify the commission about the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and did not provide a clear record of when the caretaker committee officially took effect.

The memo also criticized the ADC for not submitting specimen signatures of its new leaders. Amid ongoing leadership crises within the party, INEC's stance has led to uncertainty regarding the ADC's future, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.

The party plans to challenge INEC's position in court, asserting compliance with the law.
