Boko Haram and ISWAP Clash Intensifies in Sambisa Forest

Clashes between Boko Haram and ISWAP have intensified in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State, with reports indicating a significant escalation in violence. According to Ba Musa, a member of Boko Haram, the group has inflicted heavy losses on ISWAP, despite ISWAP claiming to have killed 100 Boko Haram fighters during confrontations on April 29.

Musa also reported that seven additional ISWAP fighters were killed in clashes around Molai in the Konduga Local Government Area, while asserting that Boko Haram suffered minimal losses. The ongoing conflict highlights the growing tensions between the rival factions within the region, which remains a stronghold for insurgent operations.

Analysts note that the infighting poses risks of unpredictability and may weaken the operational cohesion of these insurgent groups. The situation continues to be complicated by the presence of security forces applying counterterrorism pressure in the area.
