Makarfi Urges Tinubu to Declare Emergency on Insecurity

Ahmed Makarfi, the former Governor of Kaduna State and ex-National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on insecurity in Nigeria. Makarfi warned that the country's security situation is deteriorating and requires extraordinary coordinated national action.

He expressed concerns over the implications of deregistering political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that parties must comply with the Independent National Electoral Commission's guidelines to participate in the electoral process. Speaking in Kaduna during an interaction with journalists, Makarfi highlighted that insecurity should be the government's top priority, arguing that the current situation cannot be treated as normal.

He called for stronger collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to enhance the capabilities of security agencies. Makarfi also cautioned against politicizing insecurity and emphasized the importance of unity within the PDP, advocating for reconciliation among aggrieved members as essential for the party's survival.
