Kalejaye Urges Tinubu to Declare National Emergency on Terror

Kunle Kalejaye, a legal luminary based in Ibadan, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a national emergency to address the growing terror threat in Nigeria, which he describes as an embarrassment to the nation. Kalejaye highlighted the persistent wave of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping that has undermined public trust in the Nigerian Army and other security institutions.

He warned that unless urgent and decisive measures are taken, the situation could worsen, with terrorist activities extending beyond remote communities to major towns and cities. Kalejaye stressed that a national emergency declaration would send a strong message rejecting violence and demonstrating Nigeria's resolve to combat terrorism.

He urged the federal government to formulate and implement concrete strategies to crush terrorist activities, noting that the military's credibility has been significantly damaged due to the increasing audacity of criminal groups disguising themselves in military uniforms. He emphasized the need for proactive measures to identify and neutralize threats to national security.
