El-Rufai Sues Musa for N10bn Over Defamatory Remarks

Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is pursuing legal action against Gen Christopher Musa (retd.), the current Minister of Defence, demanding N10 billion in compensation and a public apology for alleged defamatory remarks made during a Channels Television programme on September 3, 2026. Musa's statements included accusations that El-Rufai had "deliberately planned for the killing of our people" and had paid bandits, which El-Rufai's lawyers described as false and damaging to his reputation.

The legal notice, issued by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan, demands a prominent retraction and apology to be aired on the same platform and published in two major newspapers. The religious organizations Jama’atu Nasril Islam and the Christian Association of Nigeria have called for peace and restraint in the wake of these allegations, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding among communities in Southern Kaduna.
