El-Rufai Threatens Legal Action Against Defence Minister

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a legal threat against the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), following alleged defamatory statements made during a television interview on September 3, 2026. In a formal letter of claim dated September 7, 2026, from his legal team at the Chambers of Ubong Akpan, El-Rufai demanded an immediate retraction and an unreserved apology, along with the preservation of relevant evidence.

The letter cites several statements made during the broadcast concerning issues such as banditry, killings, demolitions, ransom payments, and El-Rufai's conduct during his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State. El-Rufai's lawyers described these statements as defamatory and noted that the broadcast remains accessible through various media platforms.

They provided a 24-hour window for acknowledgment of receipt and a seven-day period for a substantive written response. El-Rufai reserves the right to pursue legal remedies if the matter is not resolved.
