Defence Minister Musa Reveals Consequences of Foiled Coup Plot in Nigeria

Defence Minister General Christopher Musa revealed details about a foiled coup plot in Nigeria during an interview with TRT World. The plot, uncovered in October 2025, involved 16 military officers, including a Brigadier General and a Colonel, allegedly planning to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.

The coup plan, confirmed by the Defence Headquarters, also included assassination plots against the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other government officials. The joint intelligence operation by the Nigerian Army, State Security Service (DSS), and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) led to the arrests.

Musa emphasized that the arrested officers would face justice and be granted fair trials. He assured that their families would be treated fairly and not abandoned.

The Defence Minister highlighted the serious repercussions of the coup attempt and expressed readiness to face the consequences. The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in Nigeria.
