Africa's Security Needs Innovation, Says Defence Minister

On August 24, 2026, General Musa, Nigeria's Defence Minister, delivered a lecture at the graduation of National Defence College Course 34 in Abuja. He stressed that Africa's security and prosperity are interconnected and must be pursued through integrated national strategies.

The lecture, presented by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, underscored the importance of converting Africa's natural and human resources into value-added production and technological innovation. General Musa noted that lasting peace requires inclusive economic growth, and development cannot thrive amid insecurity.

He identified resilient institutions, infrastructure, technology, and human capital as vital for a robust African security architecture. He also pointed to the African Continental Free Trade Area as a means for deeper economic integration.

The Minister urged graduates to apply their knowledge to enhance security and development in their respective sectors. He congratulated the National Defence College for its educational excellence and acknowledged Jonathan's contributions to governance and regional diplomacy.
