Defence Minister Musa Targets Enhanced Military Healthcare

General Christoph Musa, the Defence Minister of Nigeria, reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery for armed forces personnel during a visit to the African Medic Centre in Abuja. He emphasized the need for a self-reliant military healthcare system capable of providing timely, high-quality medical care.

The Minister outlined ongoing reforms within the defence health sector, including improvements in medical screening systems and early diagnosis mechanisms, as well as enhanced capacity to manage critical illnesses like cardiovascular diseases. General Musa disclosed plans to establish a comprehensive mental health framework to support personnel facing psychological pressures associated with counterinsurgency and anti-banditry operations.

He expressed concern over the threats faced by medical personnel deployed in conflict areas and noted efforts to strengthen operational support systems. Additionally, he revealed plans to harmonize medical reporting systems across the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force to improve healthcare management efficiency.
