Defence Ministry Enhances Support for Nigerian Navy

On Wednesday, the Defence Ministry, represented by Permanent Secretary Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Navy and enhancing support for improved readiness. This pledge was made during a familiarization visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.

Pheelangwah commended the professionalism of naval personnel and their critical role in safeguarding Nigeria's maritime domain. The visit aimed to deepen strategic alignment between the Defence Ministry and the Nigerian Navy, providing firsthand insight into operational priorities and challenges.

Pheelangwah emphasized that effective civil-military cooperation is vital for achieving sustainable national security objectives. He assured that the ministry is ready to support the Navy in areas such as budgetary compliance, personnel welfare, and human capital development, while also promoting local content and strengthening indigenous capacity to contribute to national economic growth.

Vice Adm. Idi Abba, the Chief of Naval Staff, expressed gratitude for the ministry's support and highlighted critical areas needing attention, including equipment procurement and infrastructure development.
