Defence Minister Promises Action on Veterans' Pension Demands

On Wednesday, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), the Minister of Defence, met with representatives of protesting ex-servicemen at the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja. Musa, represented by Permanent Secretary Richard Pheelangwah, assured the veterans that the Federal Government would address their concerns regarding pension adjustments and other welfare issues.

The ex-servicemen are demanding the implementation of consequential adjustments to their pensions due to salary increases approved for serving military personnel. Musa acknowledged the sacrifices of retired military personnel and emphasized that their welfare is a priority for the government.

He stated that concerns about wage and pension adjustments are receiving "urgent attention" and that relevant authorities are being engaged to find a sustainable resolution. Musa urged the veterans to remain calm and engage in dialogue, asserting that any adjustments must be properly computed and funded.

The meeting occurred amid heavy security presence, as armed soldiers and policemen had previously prevented the veterans from gathering for their planned protest.
