UI VC Urges Students to Acquire Digital Skills for Success

On Tuesday, during a one-day soft skills training program organized by the Career Development and Counselling Centre at the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor, addressed final-year students, emphasizing the importance of acquiring essential digital and software skills for improved employability. He stated that academic excellence alone is insufficient in today's technology-driven workplace, as employers now seek graduates with a blend of academic knowledge, technical competence, digital proficiency, and interpersonal skills.

The training, themed ‘From Campus to Corporate: Mastering Essential Software Skills,’ aimed to prepare students for the transition to the corporate world by equipping them with practical competencies. Adebowale pointed out that many graduates struggle to apply their academic knowledge in real-world situations, highlighting the necessity of digital literacy and proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.

He also noted the significance of project management and communication tools like Microsoft Teams and Slack in enhancing workplace efficiency.
