NULGE Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum Over Salary Delays

The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has threatened to shut down the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following a 72-hour ultimatum issued to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). The union, led by President Abdullahi Kabir, demands the immediate release of salary funds for workers, particularly highlighting the Kuje Area Council, which has not received its allocated salary payments despite monthly disbursements.

The ongoing non-payment has caused significant hardship for workers' families, forcing them to borrow or beg for survival, with reports of schoolchildren being sent home due to unpaid fees. Kabir expressed concern over the FCTA's handling of worker welfare and questioned the delay in salary payments, which he described as arbitrary and inhumane.

NULGE plans to take industrial action if the FCTA fails to release the funds within the stipulated timeframe, with the backing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
