NULGE Strike Over Kuje Allocation Amid Salary Crisis

The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has commenced an indefinite strike across six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to the failure to release the January 2026 monthly allocations for Kuje Area Council. This decision was made following an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council on February 18, 2026, amid growing concerns regarding worker welfare.

NULGE President Ibrahim Kabi stated that the strike would take immediate effect, impacting non-teaching staff in Kuje. The union has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Treasury of unjustifiably withholding the allocations despite repeated appeals.

The situation has led to workers in Kuje Area Council not receiving salaries since December 2025, placing severe hardship on their families. NULGE has exhausted avenues for dialogue and demands the immediate release of the allocations to facilitate the payment of outstanding salaries, indicating that the strike will continue until the issue is fully resolved.
