Delta Assembly Declares Egbetamah's Seat Vacant

The Delta State House of Assembly declared the seat of Hon. Collin Egbetamah, representing Udu State Constituency, vacant due to his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

This declaration was made by the Speaker, Rt. Hon.

Emomotimi Denni Guwor, on Tuesday, following a motion presented by Hon. Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by Deputy Speaker Rt.

Hon. Arthur Akpowowo.

The motion was unanimously approved during a plenary session. Hon.

Nwaobi cited Section 109 of the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates that a member vacates their seat upon changing political parties. The Speaker confirmed that the necessary constitutional requirements were met, leading to the immediate declaration of the seat as vacant.

The resolution directs the clerk to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections to fill the vacancy, as stipulated in Section 116(2) of the Constitution. Egbetamah's resignation letter was dated June 19, 2026, and he had officially left the APC on April 30, 2026.
