Delta CP Yemi Oyeniyi Orders Crackdown on Forest Bandits

On Wednesday, Delta State Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi directed a crackdown on forest bandits operating within the state. He instructed security agents and civil security outfits to intensify intelligence gathering and patrols in rural communities, particularly in areas critical for access, including roads, waterways, and railway corridors.

During a security meeting, Oyeniyi emphasized the importance of collaboration between police and local vigilante groups, urging them to maintain sustained patrols in the forests. He warned against unlawful detention, torture, and dehumanizing treatment by security outfits and mandated that any individual arrested should be promptly handed over to the nearest police station for further charges.

Oyeniyi also called for the identification and removal of criminal elements within the ranks of local security outfits and reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Police to work genuinely with security partners within the legal framework.
