Delta Governor Orders Resignation of Appointees for 2027 Elections

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has issued a directive requiring all political appointees who plan to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31, 2026. The announcement was made through a statement signed by Kingsley Ez Emu, the Secretary to the State Government, and shared on the state government's official page on Monday.

This directive aligns with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that political appointees seeking nominations must resign to participate in party primaries. The resignation requirement applies to various positions, including commission advisers, directors, executive assistants, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, and other political appointees within the state.

The governor emphasized the importance of strict compliance with this directive, which comes amid increasing political activity as the 2027 elections approach. Appointees are required to submit their resignation letters to the Secretary to the State Government by the specified deadline.
