Delta State Plans 120MW Power Boost with Supply Power

The Delta State Government is working to enhance electricity generation and supply by adding 120 megawatts (MW) to the national grid through a partnership with Supply Power. Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, announced this initiative at a press conference in Asaba.

The plan is part of broader reforms aimed at attracting private investment in the power sector. The government is particularly focused on utilizing Delta's natural gas resources for power generation, with the Kwale Free Trade Zone identified as a key opportunity for investors.

Aniagwu mentioned that the 8.5MW Independent Power Plant in Asaba serves as a successful example of local electricity generation. The partnership with Supply Power aims to strengthen the state's electricity supply capacity, benefiting small and medium-sized enterprises.

Additionally, the state is extending the electricity grid to connect more communities and addressing the burden on communities that provide infrastructure for electricity distribution.
