Delta State Partners with REA for Solar Healthcare Projects

The Delta State Government is in discussions with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to deploy large-scale solar power projects in primary healthcare centres and other public institutions across Delta State. Mr.

Michael Anoka, the State Commissioner for Energy, announced this initiative during a strategic meeting in Asaba. The project aims to expand access to clean and reliable electricity in public institutions and is part of the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Programme.

Anoka emphasized the importance of protecting the interests of the State and its people in any agreements made. The initiative is expected to promote clean energy adoption and improve service delivery in key sectors.

The meeting also addressed the draft Collaboration Agreement, focusing on the State’s long-term financial obligations and operational responsibilities. REA representatives outlined the financing structure, indicating that the projects would be funded by the Federal Government and private developers, with the State responsible for service payments under an Energy-as-a-Service model.

The REA requested data on electricity consumption from beneficiary institutions to determine service charges post-project completion.
