Delta State to Hire Teachers, Institutionalize 13-Month Salary

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced a significant initiative to employ secondary school teachers and institutionalize a 13-month salary for civil servants. This decision was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Charl Aniagwu, during a media briefing in Asaba.

The initiative aims to ensure that the payment of the 13th-month salary becomes a legal entitlement for civil servants, independent of administrative discretion, once the bill is passed by the Delta State House of Assembly. The executive council also expressed concern over the shortage of teachers, particularly in science subjects, and directed the Ministry of Secondary Education to prepare a memo indicating the number of teachers required for recruitment.

Additionally, the council approved the procurement of equipment for technical colleges in Oghareki and Irri to enhance technical education and equip young people with practical skills necessary for employment and entrepreneurship.
