FG Acknowledges Inflation and Insecurity on Democracy Day

On Democracy Day, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through Secretary to the Government of the Federation Georg Akum, recognized inflation and insecurity as significant challenges facing the nation. During a press conference in Abuja, Akum defended the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu's administration over the past three years, citing recent economic indicators that suggest improvements.

He noted that Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.07% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 3.89% in the first quarter of 2026. Akum highlighted the government's social intervention programs, including cash transfers and student loans, aimed at alleviating hardship.

He acknowledged that while progress has been made, challenges remain, particularly in security, and called for citizen support for security agencies. Akum also mentioned the government's commitment to reforms and the importance of national unity amid ethnic and religious divisions, as the administration prepares for the 2027 general elections.
