Denmark Requires Re-Entry Permit for Residency Applicants

Denmark has announced a new travel restriction for foreigners who are currently awaiting decisions on their permanent residence applications. According to the official Danish immigration portal, these applicants must obtain a re-entry permit before traveling abroad.

If they do not secure this permit, they risk being unable to return to Denmark if a decision on their application is made while they are outside the country. The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration, known as SIRI, administers these cases.

If permanent residence is granted while an applicant is abroad, their existing residence card will be blocked, and a new one will be issued, potentially leaving them with an invalid document. The guidance emphasizes that it is the applicant's responsibility to obtain the re-entry permit prior to departure.

This rule applies to all foreign nationals with pending permanent residence applications, regardless of their travel destination or trip duration.
