Dennerby in Talks for Super Falcons Coaching Return

Thomas Dennerby is being considered for a return to the head coach position of the Super Falcons as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) seeks to appoint a new coach ahead of the Olympic qualifiers next month. The NFF, under former president Ibrahim Gusau, had previously asked the technical crew led by Justine Madugu to step down after the team’s poor performance at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they failed to defend their title and missed qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The interim NFF leadership, led by Emmanuel Ikpeme, aims to finalize a new technical crew before the Super Falcons' qualification campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games against Comoros in October. Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, confirmed that changes to the technical team are imminent.

Dennerby previously coached the Super Falcons from January 2018 to September 2019, leading them to victory at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and the knockout stages of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He left his last role with the Indian women’s national team in 2023.
