Custodian Investment Faces N419M Penalties Despite Earnings
Custodian Investment Plc reported regulatory penalties amounting to N419 million for the financial year ending 2025, as disclosed in its audited financial statement filed with the Nigerian Exchange. The penalties included N391 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with N240 million related to breaches of intraday liquidity facilities.
Other fines included N76 million for non-compliance with customer due diligence regulations, N75 million for failing to implement internal audits, and smaller amounts for environmental violations and late financial report submissions. Despite these penalties, Custodian Investment posted a profit before tax of N77.35 billion and a net income of N91.32 billion.
Analysts noted that the fines represent less than 1% of pre-tax profit, and the recovery of the intraday liquidity facility fine would further mitigate the financial impact. Compliance expert Dr.
Funk Olayinka emphasized the need for Custodian Investment to strengthen its oversight to prevent future infractions, while bank analyst Chidi Nwosu remarked that the penalties, although material, do not overshadow the company's robust earnings.
