DHQ Clarifies CDS Remarks on Borno, Yobe Residents

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a statement clarifying remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Olufemi Oluyede concerning the involvement of residents in Borno and Yobe states in aiding terrorist activities. Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, emphasized that General Oluyede's comments were grossly misrepresented and did not imply a general indictment of the residents.

The CDS's statement aimed to encourage community vigilance and support for security agencies in combating terrorism. It was noted that the CDS referred specifically to criminal elements exploiting community structures for terrorist activities, rather than accusing the entire population.

The DHQ reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to defend the nation's territorial integrity and protect law-abiding citizens, highlighting significant successes in ongoing military operations across the northeast. The military high command urged media organizations to verify facts and avoid sensational reporting that could undermine public trust.
