CDS Oluyede Calls for Community Role in Defeating Insurgents

On Wednesday, during a visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede addressed the ongoing security challenges posed by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno and Yobe states. He highlighted that the perpetrators of these attacks are often known within their communities, referring to them as "our brothers and sisters." Oluyede stressed that defeating the insurgency requires active participation and cooperation from local residents.

This statement comes in the wake of multiple explosions in parts of Borno State, which resulted in several casualties. He noted that the military must adapt its tactics to counter increasingly sophisticated attacks, including the use of drones by insurgents.

The visit was part of a directive from the President for military chiefs to relocate to the northeast to better manage the worsening security situation in the region.
