DHQ Clarifies Oluyede's Comments on Borno and Yobe Residents

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a statement to clarify remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede concerning the involvement of residents in Borno and Yobe states in terrorism. Major General Samaila Uba explained that the DHQ typically does not respond to distorted reports but felt it necessary to correct the narrative that suggested the Chief of Defence Staff indicted the people of these states.

Instead, the emphasis was placed on the importance of community partnerships and collective responsibility in tackling evolving security challenges. The DHQ highlighted that the fight against terrorism is not solely a military responsibility and acknowledged the active support of local communities in counter-terrorism efforts.

The statement also underscored the need for vigilance and community cooperation, while expressing appreciation for the resilience and sacrifices of the people in Borno and Yobe. The DHQ reaffirmed its commitment to defending Nigeria's territorial integrity and protecting law-abiding citizens.
