DHQ Clarifies No Indictment of Borno, Yobe Residents

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a clarification regarding remarks made by Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, which were misinterpreted as accusations against residents of Borno and Yobe states concerning terrorism. Major General Samaila Uba, the DHQ spokesman, stated that the Chief of Defence Staff did not indict the general populace of these states but rather highlighted the necessity of community partnerships and vigilance in combating Nigeria's security challenges.

The DHQ noted that while there are instances of criminal elements exploiting community structures to aid terrorist activities, this should not be seen as a blanket accusation against entire communities. Uba provided an example of a wounded terrorist found sheltered within a local community, emphasizing the need for residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts.

He urged media organizations to verify facts and avoid sensationalism that could undermine ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, reaffirming the commitment of the armed forces to protect law-abiding citizens and defend Nigeria's territorial integrity.
