DHQ Clarifies Misreported Killing of Terrorist Leader

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria issued a clarification regarding the reported killing of terrorist leader Abu-Bilal Al-Minuki, stating that the claim was based on old reports that resurfaced online. Major General Samaila Uba explained that terrorist groups often use similar names to obscure their identities, which can lead to public confusion.

The clarification followed allegations that the Nigerian military was engaging in counter-terrorism propaganda. Uba reaffirmed the military's commitment to providing verified information through official channels.

He noted that the recent neutralization of high-profile terrorist commanders is a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism, particularly in the Northeast region and the Lake Chad Basin. Uba urged media members and the public to rely on official sources to avoid misinformation.

Former DSS Director Mike Ejiofor added that terrorist organizations do not operate under a single command structure, which complicates identification efforts.
