DHQ to Nigerians: CDS Musa never asked anyone to bear arms

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted claims that Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Major General Christopher Musa urged Nigerians to bear arms. Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, clarified that a statement attributed to Musa during a television interview on August 20 was misrepresented.

Gusau emphasized that the CDS actually encouraged citizens to develop basic survival skills, akin to everyday activities like driving, swimming, taekwondo, judo, and boxing. He reiterated that Musa did not advocate for the unlawful possession of firearms, as he is well aware of Nigerian laws prohibiting unauthorized carrying of weapons.

The DHQ assured the public that the armed forces and security agencies are making significant strides in combating insecurity nationwide, reflecting the government's commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring peace and stability.
