DHQ Urges Respect for Military Traditions After Attack

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has called on Nigerians to respect established military traditions regarding the announcement of fallen officers, particularly in light of recent casualties from a terrorist attack in Borno State. This appeal follows reports of Brigadier General Musa Uba being killed during an attack on a military location in Benisheikh.

Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, expressed regret over the loss of brave soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, honored their heroism and sacrifice.

The DHQ emphasized the need for due process in notifying families before public disclosures and urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media. The attack occurred on April 9, 2026, when insurgents attempted to breach the military installation's defenses.

Troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade, commanded by Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, successfully repelled the attack, underscoring the military's readiness and resilience in ongoing operations against terrorism in the northeast.
