Seriake Dickson Leaves PDP for New NDC Party

On Thursday, Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa State, announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a press conference in Abuja. Dickson cited the deepening internal crises within the PDP as a significant factor in his decision, emphasizing the need to build a credible democratic alternative for Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation for his constituents in Bayelsa State, where he previously served two terms as governor. Dickson's move follows extensive consultations with political associates and stakeholders across the country.

He warned against allowing Nigeria's political system to drift towards a one-party structure, stressing the importance of a vibrant multiparty democracy. Dickson disclosed that the formation of the NDC resulted from legal battles with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the new political party.
