Chelle: Breaking into Super Eagles Squad Increasingly Tough

Eric Chelle, the current coach of the Super Eagles, expressed that it has become increasingly difficult for players to break into the national squad due to the depth and quality of competition across all positions. He mentioned that players must outperform established members to secure their spots.

Chelle highlighted the competition in various positions, including center-back, full-back, midfield, and attack, noting the presence of notable players such as Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Osimhen. He acknowledged the recent changes in the squad, including the introduction of new players during the Unity Cup in London, where Nigeria defeated Jamaica 3-0.

Chelle also addressed the team's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and emphasized the importance of improving every detail to close the gap with leading teams. The Nigeria Football Federation has yet to conclude contract discussions regarding Chelle's future with the Super Eagles.
