Eric Chelle to Lead Super Eagles and U23 Eagles

Eric Chelle has been confirmed to remain as the head coach of Nigeria's senior national football team, the Super Eagles, while also taking charge of the U23 Eagles. Shehu Dikko, chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation, announced this decision on Tuesday following a meeting in Abuja.

Chelle's contract has been extended for two years, set to expire at the end of 2026, with a new salary package of $100,000 per month that will also cover his backroom staff. This dual role is intended to facilitate a smoother transition for young talents moving to the senior team.

Chelle faces immediate challenges, including qualifying the senior team for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and rebuilding the U23 team for the 2028 Olympic Games. The U23 team has struggled recently, failing to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games.

Dikko emphasized that the new agreement aims to establish a continuous pipeline for rising football stars without overworking the current technical crew.
