Bayelsa Governor Diri Named Nigeria's Most Worker-Friendly

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has commended Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri as the most worker-friendly governor in Nigeria. This recognition was made during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Yenagoa on Thursday, led by Finance Commissioner Dr Charles Emukowhate, representing PenCom's Director-General Ms Omolola Oloworaran.

PenCom highlighted the Diri administration's significant efforts to enhance pension administration, including the amendment of the Pensions Law in December 2022 to align with the National Pensions Reform Act. The establishment of state pension institutions, the appointment of a substantive head of the Pensions Board in February 2026, and the procurement of Employer Codes for 108 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were cited as evidence of the administration's dedication to pension reform.

Dr. Emukowhate stated that Bayelsa is positioned to lead in implementing the Contributory Pensions Scheme, emphasizing that not many governors are as committed to these reforms as Diri.
