Diri Advocates Ijaw Unity at INC Reception in Yenagoa

On [date not specified], Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, hosted a mega unity reception at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa to conclude his reconciliation efforts within the Ijaw National Congress (INC). The event gathered leaders, stakeholders, and contestants from the disputed April 2026 INC election that resulted in the leadership of High Chief MacDonald Igbadiwe.

The inauguration of the Igbadiwe-led executive in Warri, Delta State, had previously sparked controversy, prompting Diri to form a reconciliation committee chaired by Dr. Mathew Seiyefa. During the reception, Diri called for unity among the Ijaw people, emphasizing the need to prioritize collective interests over personal ambitions.

He stated that the Ijaw nation must present a united front to influence decisions affecting their future. Sir Gabriel Toby, the event's chairman and former deputy governor of Rivers State, commended Diri for his intervention in resolving the leadership crisis and praised the reconciliation committee's efforts.
