Olatunji Disu Sworn in as Nigeria's 23rd IGP

Olatunji Disu was sworn in as Nigeria's 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP) on a recent date, under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, during a ceremony at the State House in Abuja. Disu's appointment comes with a mandate to establish a multi-level police system, also known as state police, which Tinubu has prioritized.

Disu emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse of authority, misconduct, and partisanship within the police force. He inaugurated a seven-member steering committee to facilitate the establishment of state police in Nigeria.

Disu also highlighted the importance of police welfare, especially given the challenging nature of police work, and committed to maintaining strict neutrality during the upcoming 2027 elections. He warned that any officer found compromising their neutrality or violating electoral laws would face disciplinary action.

The ceremony was attended by ministers, top government officials, and family members of the appointee.
